UPDATE: Wednesday, March 25, 2:45 p.m.: During the investigation into this incident, it has been determined that the value of the Eagle statue is at least $10,000.

The Littleton Police Department (LPD) is investigating the vandalism of a memorial at Berry Park, located at 3400 West Berry Avenue, that honors the 19 U.S. service members killed during Operation Red Wings.

LPD received a call for service around 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. LPD determined that the eagle figure was stolen from the monument located near a statue honoring Dietz. The stolen piece is estimated to be worth approximately $1,000.

The memorial pays tribute to those who lost their lives in the 2005 mission in Afghanistan, including Colorado native Danny Dietz. Dietz was one of three U.S. Navy SEALs killed during the operation. Sixteen additional service members were killed when their helicopter was shot down while attempting to provide support and rescue to the team.

At this time, there are no known suspects.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the LPD at 303-794-1551.
