Littleton Police History
Littleton Police Department photo
Sergeant J.D. Harris waits for a southbound freight train to pass at the Main Street crossing. The railroad came to Littleton with the first laying of tracks in 1871. Trains brought much prosperity to the small Town, along with occasional tragedy from train-related accidents that were commonplace through the years. Littleton motorists are much safer today because all railroad crossings within the City boundaries have been reconstructed to allow train passage either over or under the roadway. Sergeant Harris retired from the Police Department in 1990 after 27 years of service.
