Colorado State Patrol officials present a training certificate to Littleton Police Patrolman Ron Hines upon his graduation from the Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academy (C.L.E.T.A.). Hines attended the very first C.L.E.T.A. class in the summer of 1965. The academy was established by legislative action to promote professionalism in law enforcement through standardized formal training. The course provided instruction in all aspects of basic law enforcement. Early academies were held at the Colorado Air National Guard Base at Buckley Field in Aurora. C.L.E.T.A. was later moved to Camp George West in Golden and was ultimately abolished in 1992. Law enforcement basic training and certification are presently delegated to local community colleges and the to the law enforcement agencies themselves. Ron Hines retired from the Littleton Police Department at the rank of Division Commander in 1994.
