Know your ride, difference between e bike and motorcycles. There are three classes of e bikes

As more residents take to the roads, trails, and sidewalks this summer, the Littleton Police Department (LPD) is expanding its bike safety education efforts to help riders and families better understand the rules of the road and the differences between bicycles, e-bikes, and other motorized devices.

The campaign includes social media outreach, educational resources on the LPD and City of Littleton websites, community engagement opportunities, and partnerships with local organizations to promote safe and responsible riding.

One of the primary goals of the campaign is to educate the public on the distinctions between traditional bicycles, electric bicycles, and all-electric motorized vehicles such as scooters and high-speed electric bikes. Understanding these differences is important because each device type is subject to different laws and restrictions on where it can be operated.

"Many riders and parents are unaware that not all electric-powered devices are treated the same under Colorado law," said interim Police Chief Gene Enley. "Our goal is to provide clear information that helps everyone make safe and informed decisions while enjoying our community's roads and trails."

LPD is partnering with South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR) and Littleton Public Schools (LPS) to share consistent safety messaging with students, parents, and community members. Together, the agencies hope to encourage safe riding habits and reduce preventable crashes and injuries.

LPD will continue sharing educational content throughout the summer and encourages residents to visit the City's website and follow LPD social media channels for additional safety information and resources.
