Mug Shot of Daniel Reynaldo Tolentio

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), with assistance from the Littleton Police Department (LPD), took 43-year-old Daniel Reynaldo Tolentino into custody around 9:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026.

At that time, Tolentino was transported to an area hospital where he received medical attention and then custody was transferred to the LPD. Tolentino was booked into the Arapahoe County Jail on charges of multiple counts criminal attempt first degree murder of a peace officer, aggravated robbery, felony menacing, and vehicular eluding.

At around 8:30 p.m. on the evening of Monday, January 12, the DCSO and the LPD received a bulletin from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) to be on the lookout for an armed carjacking suspect. The carjacking took place at 8:22 p.m. at the intersection of Broadway and Panama. The victim was at a car wash attempting to wash his vehicle when he was approached by Tolentino, who was armed with a gun. The victim was not injured and handed over the keys to the vehicle.

At around 8:30 p.m, DCSO deputies located the suspect, driving the stolen vehicle, in the Highlands Ranch area and initiated a pursuit. DCSO notified LPD and both agencies were able to apprehend the suspect in a neighborhood near County Line Road and Santa Fe Drive.

During the incident, the suspect shot at deputies, then rammed a DCSO deputy with his car. The suspect continued firing at deputies through the windshield of the stolen vehicle, and one DCSO deputy returned fire. Through the course of the investigation, it was learned that the deputy who was rammed, also suffered an injury consistent with a bullet grazing. The DCSO deputy who was injured during this incident was transported to local area hospital but is now home and is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect driver sustained a gunshot wound to the hand and was transported to Littleton Adventist for treatment. A passenger in the vehicle was taken into custody, without incident, for outstanding warrants that were unrelated to this incident.

“It is a miracle that our deputies were not killed. I am proud of both deputies who faced extreme danger. Despite being shot at and rammed by the suspect’s vehicle, our injured deputy stayed in the fight and helped arrest the suspect. That kind of resolve and grit defines the men and women of this office,” said DCSO Sheriff Darren Weekly.

“The Littleton Police Department is committed to the safety and wellbeing of our community. We are thankful for the partnerships that we have with our surrounding agencies. We appreciate that when it comes to keeping the Littleton community safe, our law enforcement brothers and sisters don’t hesitate to step in and assist to do what is necessary,” said Littleton Police Chief Doug Stephens.

LPD is taking the lead on this active criminal investigation, and no further information will be released at this time. The 18th Judicial DA Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) will be investigating the Officer-Involved Shooting.
