Celebrate Safely: Leave Fireworks to the Professionals

UPDATE: June 30, 2026, 6:35 p.m.: On Tuesday, June 30, the City of Littleton announced that they are now under a Stage Two Fire Ban.
This means that the use of all non-professional fireworks is prohibited.
As Independence Day approaches, the City of Littleton and Littleton Police Department (LPD) are reminding residents and visitors that the city is currently under a Stage 1 Fire Ban. With dry conditions and increased fire danger, the safest way to celebrate this year is to leave fireworks to the professionals.
Under Littleton City Ordinance 6-4-75, it is unlawful to possess, manufacture, store, sell, handle, or use fireworks within the City of Littleton. This restriction does not apply to individuals or organizations that have obtained a special event permit for a professional fireworks display or to fireworks specifically allowed under Colorado State law.
“Fireworks” are defined as any article, composition, or device prepared to produce a visible or audible effect through combustion, explosion, deflagration, or detonation, including devices classified as 1.4G or 1.3G fireworks under the International Fire Code.
Fireworks that leave the ground, including aerial fireworks such as bottle rockets, mortars, and other explosive devices, are illegal in the City of Littleton unless specifically authorized through a permitted professional display.
The LPD strongly encourages everyone to celebrate responsibly by enjoying fireworks at a professional show rather than attempting to put on a display at home. Fireworks can quickly lead to injuries, property damage, and wildfires, putting the community, open spaces, and first responders at risk.
Residents and visitors are invited to celebrate Independence Day with the City of Littleton and the City of Englewood at the annual Independence Day Celebration, featuring a professional fireworks display and a special opportunity to celebrate America’s 250th birthday!
